Box Score San Antonio - The Tiger women's tennis
team snapped an eight-match losing streak with a 6-3 win over Lewis
& Clark College on Saturday afternoon.
Trinity, which is ranked 17th nationally according to the latest
Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III poll, improved to
4-13 on the season with the win. The Tigers nailed down two
out of three doubles matches, then won four of six in singles to
clinch the team victory.
Christy Hamilton and Gabrielle Roe were Trinity's only double
winners on Saturday, scoring points in both singles and doubles.
The doubles partners won 8-2 at the third position, then both
won in straight sets at Nos. 4 and 5 singles.
Caroline White and Kathleen Lundquist earned a narrow 8-6 win in
doubles, then White suffered a narrow defeat (6-2, 2-6, 6-7) in her
singles match.
Thavindra Ekanayake bounced back from her 8-3 doubles loss to
take a hard-fought 7-5, 2-6, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles. Kylie
Hornbeck won 7-5, 6-0 at No. 2 singles as well, rounding out the
team's four points.
Trinity will be back in action next weekend, hosting Division II
Incarnate Word at 10:00 a.m., followed by another home match with
Texas Lutheran at 3:00 p.m. The matches will be the final
home contests of the regular season for the Tigers.
