Pomona, California - Trinity's women's
tennis team opened up its California road trip with a 7-2 loss at
Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Thursday night.
The Tigers fall to 3-8 on the season with the team's third
consecutive defeat. Pomona took all three doubles matches to
take an early 3-0 lead, then Trinity was able to grab just two wins
in singles play.
Mackenzie Knoop earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at the top position to
start off singles play and earn the first point of the night for
the Tigers. The Sagehens quickly nabbed the next two points
to clinch the match, though, leading 5-1 at the time.
Also earning a singles win was Gabrielle Roe from her spot at
No. 5 for the Tigers. Roe leads all Trinity players with six
wins in singles play this season, improving to 6-4 overall.
Kristy Hamilton and Stephanie Williamson lost a narrow 9-7
decision in the final doubles match, then Hamilton also lost her
singles match 4-6, 6-7 (4-7) to end the evening for the Tigers.
Trinity continues the trip with a match at Redlands tomorrow,
and a match at Claremont on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers then
face off against Bowdoin and Whitman in two neutral matches on
Monday and Tuesday afternoons.
