Box Score Richardson, Texas - The Tiger women's tennis team opened up a three-match road weekend with a 9-0 sweep at the University of Texas-Dallas on Friday afternoon.
Trinity improved to 6-14 on the season with its second consecutive victory, and the Tigers are ranked 18th in Division III according to the latest ITA poll. The sweep was just the second this year for Trinity, and the first since the opening match of the spring season.
The Tigers opened the match with three solid wins in doubles to take the early advantage over the Comets. Thavindra Ekanayake and Kylie Hornbeck won 8-5 from the top line in doubles, and the duo went on to win the top two lines in singles as well. Ekanayake won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, while Hornbeck was a 6-1, 6-0 winner from the second position.
Stephanie Williamson and Kristy Hamilton also won 8-5 at No. 3 doubles, and both also contributed singles points as well. Williamson won 6-1, 6-2 from her sixth position, while Hamilton won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.
Gabrielle Roe (6-1, 6-1) and Caroline White (6-1, 6-2) took wins at lines three and four in singles, and White also teamed with Kathleen Lundquist for an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles earlier in the day.
The Tigers continue the road trip on Sunday, taking on both the University of Texas-Tyler and Collin County Community College to finish off the regular season schedule. Trinity will host the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at the end of the month.
