Women's Tennis Earns Road Wins Over UT-Tyler and Collin County

Tyler/Plano, Texas - The 18th-ranked Trinity Tigers women's tennis team completed its North Texas trip with two victories Sunday. 

Trinity (8-14) first beat Texas-Tyler 8-1 on the Patriots' home courts. The Tigers then traveled to Plano and defeated the Collin College Cougars, ranked fifth in the JUCO poll, by a score of 6-2.
 
The Tigers, who took out Texas-Dallas 9-0 on Friday in Richardson, have now won four consecutive dual matches.
 
In the opener with Texas-Tyler, the Tigers won two of three doubles matches and swept the singles.
 
Caroline White and Kathleen Lundquist won No. 2 doubles 8-6; while Kristy Hamilton and Stephanie Williamson took the No. 3 line 8-2. Thavindra Ekanayake and Kylie Hornbeck fell 8-4 in No 1 doubles.
 
Ekanayake won the top singles slot 7-5, 6-3; and Hornbeck captured a hard-fought No. 2 match 6-7, 6-0, 6-2. Gabrielle Roe was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at No. 3 singles; and White won the No. 4 line 6-1, 7-5. Hamilton won her No. 5 singles match 6-4, 6-3; and Williamson blanked the Texas-Tyler opponent 6-0, 6-0, on the No. 6 line.
 
Trinity began the match with the Cougars by taking two doubles matches. White and Lundquist won a tightly played No. 2 match 9-8 (5), while Hamilton and Williams captured the No. 3 line 8-5. Collin College players beat Ekanayake and Hornbeck 8-1 at No. 1 doubles.
 
The Tigers were victorious in five of the singles matches. Hornbeck outfought her opponent 2-6, 7-6, 12-10 (tiebreak instead of third set) at No. 2 singles; and White won a three-set No. 4 singles 3-6, 6-3, 10-4. Hamilton won the No. 5 line 6-1, 6-0; and Williamson brought home No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-1. The Cougars won No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-3 over Ekanayake. Roe's No. 3 singles match did not finish, but the first-year player was leading 6-3, 4-3.
 
 
Trinity will defend its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference title in front of the hometown fans April 27-28, as the Tigers host the SCAC Men's and Women's Championships. The winners will earn automatic bids to the NCAA Playoffs.
