San Antonio - Trinity's eighth-ranked women's soccer team opened up the 2013 season with a 7-1 victory over Luther (IA) College on Friday night.
The Tigers (1-0) led 3-1 at the half, jumping ahead with a pair of goals in the first eight minutes of play. Luther broke onto the scoreboard with less than 10 minutes to play in the half, but it would be their final goal of the game. Trinity went on to add four more goals to close out the game in the second half.
All-American Emily Jorgens started the season in impressive fashion, picking up her second career hat trick and eight total points for the Tigers. She scored the first two goals of the game, then added her third less than five minutes into the second half. Jorgens then picked up a pair of assists on Trinity's final two scores.
Also picking up goals for the Tigers were Kelsey Falcone, Kimberly Polasek, Michelle Lanier, and Yasmeen Farra. Lanier also picked up an assist, as did Maggie Olvera, Jennifer White, and Tara Sparks.
Goalkeepers Devan Osegueda and Lauren Goldberg each picked up saves for the Tigers, and first-year keeper Janie Thompson started the second half of play.
Trinity returns to action on Sunday at noon, facing off against the University of Puget Sound.
