San Antonio - The Trinity Tigers women's
tennis team wrapped up its annual season-opening Quad Tournament on
Saturday.
Trinity hosted the University of the Incarnate Word, Laredo
Community College, St. Edward's University, and St.
Mary's University in singles and doubles flighted play.
Kristy Hamilton advanced to the Flight 3 Singles final, and lost
6-1, 6-2 to Taryn Strahl of UIW. Trinity's Elena Wilson
played in the Flight 5 Championship, with St. Mary's Briana
Fellows taking the match 6-1, 6-2.
Hamilton and Stephanie Williamson teamed up and fought their way
to the Flight 2 Doubles final, with Jamie Lee Denton and Ariana
Saldana of St. Mary's coming out on top 7-2. Flight 3
Doubles went to Mariana Rong and Joanie Bryant of St. Mary's,
who were 5-0 winners over Trinity's Michelle Gun-Munro and
Laura Roa.
Williamson won third place in Flight 4 Singles, while Lavinia
Bendandi and Gabrielle Roe took third in Flight 2 Doubles. Wilson
and Rebecca Santos were third-place finishers in Flight 3
Doubles.
Fifth place in Flight 4 Singles went to Roa, as did Flight 5
Singles to Gun-Munro. Roe won seventh place in Flight 2 Singles,
and Santos finished at No. 7 in Flight 4.
The Tiger women will compete in the ITA Southwest Region
Championships Sept. 20-22 at the University of Texas at Tyler.
