San Antonio - Tiger women's soccer player
Michelle Lanier has been named the National Soccer Coaches
Association of America Division III Player of the Week.
Lanier earned the Disney Soccer/NSCAA Women's Player of
the Week award for her performance at last week's Trinity
home soccer games. Lanier sparked the fifth-ranked Tigers to
shutout victories over Texas Lutheran (7-0) and Schreiner (10-0) at
McGinlay Soccer Field last weekend.
Earlier, Lanier was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference Women's Soccer Co-Offensive Player of the
Week.
Lanier registered nine points in the two SCAC matchups. She
scored a goal against Texas Lutheran, and then thundered ahead for
two goals and three assists in the game with Schreiner.
Lanier's high performance against Schreiner came in the first
half of play, including the eventual game-winner. She scored or
assisted on five of the Tigers seven goals in the first 45 minutes
of play.
For the season, Lanier is second on the Tiger team with 15 total
points. She also is second in goals and assists, with five each.
Sunday's matchup with Schreiner marked Lanier's first
game-winning goal of the campaign.
Trinity (7-0-1, 2-0-0 SCAC), the defending conference champion,
will host a pair of SCAC games next weekend, starting with
Centenary on Friday (6:00 p.m.), and concluding with Austin College
on Sunday (12:00 p.m.).
