San Antonio – Trinity University's
Emily Jorgens and Jennifer White were named the first Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Players of the
Week for the 2013 campaign.
Jorgens (Austin, TX/Westwood), a junior midfielder, was selected
as the Offensive Player of the Week. White (Albuquerque,
NM/Albuquerque Academy), a senior defender, got the nod for
Defensive Player of the Week.
Both players were instrumental in Trinity's season-opening home
victories last weekend over Luther College (7-1) and the University
of the Puget Sound (3-1). Trinity (2-0-0) moved up in the National
Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III Poll
from eighth, to the No. 6 position.
Jorgens, a two-time All-American, scored a total of eight points
for Trinity over the weekend. She recorded her second-career hat
trick in last Friday's win over Luther, firing in three goals
and dishing out two assists.
White and the taut Tiger defense gave up just four shots to
Luther, then held Puget Sound to one goal on 14 shots attempts on
Sunday.
The Tigers head to Claremont, California, next weekend for two
games. Trinity will take on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday, and
Chapman on Sunday. Texas-Tyler will be Trinity's home
opponent on Sept. 13 at McGinlay Field.
