Box Score Mt. Berry, Georgia - The Tiger women's cross country team finished sixth at the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Championship meet on Saturday, while the Trinity men's team earned an 11th-place finish.
Trinity's women were led by Nicola Hill, who finished 10th overall and narrowly missed earning a spot at the NCAA D-III Championships meet. Hill finished the 6K course in a personal best time of 22:52.86 to earn All-Region honors for the third straight season.
On the men's side, the Tigers were led by Taylor Piske's career-best 16th-place finish. Piske was also All-Region for the third time in as many seasons. He finished the course in 26:01.29 on Saturday.
The women's race featured a tight group of teams finishing second through sixth. Emory won the event, but Christopher Newport (124), Centre (125), Rhodes (137), Mary Washington (142), and Trinity (147) were separated by just 23 points. Emory also won the men's meet.
Trinity's top runner in Michelle Oberndorf was injured and though she was able to compete, she was the seventh runner in the meet (as opposed to being first or second all season). Joining Hill on the All-Region team were first-years Melissa Whitman and Emma MacEachern. Whitman came in 20th (23:11.83), while MacEachern finished in 23:33.23 for 30th place. Mariana Sigala and Genevieve Primeau completed the top five for the Tigers. All top five runners for the women earned personal bests times.
Austin Brown was second for the men's team, finishing 47th in 27:04.49. Michael Erickson raced to the finish in 27:09.41, while Jacob Hammond and Daniel Henkes rounded out the top five for the Tigers. Erickson, Hammond, and Henkes all posted personal records in the meet.
Trinity's men's team performed well overall, though, as four of the team's top five finishers were competing in their first regional meet. The future of the Tiger team is also promising, as each of the team's top six finishers will return in 2015.
