finished off its regular season schedule with a 41-0 Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Austin College on
Saturday afternoon.
After a slow start to the game, the Tigers exploded with 31
points in the second half to finish off the win. The two
teams were scoreless in the first quarter, but Trinity got on the
board with a 33-yard touchdown pass from Mason Blaschke to Jeremy
Simmons.
Simmons finished the game with three total touchdowns, rushing
for 161 yards on 19 carries, and catching two passes for 35 total
yards. He scored both of his scores on the ground in the
third quarter to account for both of Trinity's touchdowns.
Simmons nabbed scores of 27 and 60 yards, and the Tigers led
24-0 at the end of the quarter.
Early in the fourth, Adam Saunders returned an interception 46
yards for a touchdown, followed by a score by Desmond King with
6:32 remaining. Payton Kisor added field goals in the second
and fourth quarters.
Trinity's defense got its first shutout since last season
against Southwestern, and for just the second time since the 2009
season. The Austin offense was held to just 164 yards of
offense in the game, which included 64 yards rushing. The
Tigers have held each of their last two opponents to less than 100
yards rushing, as well as connecting on all three extra-point
attempts.
Julian Turner led the defense with 12 total tackles, as well as
1.5 tackles for loss. Brad Hood had 10 tackles that included
six solo stops.
Trinity finishes off its season with a 4-6 overall record,
winning three of the last four games. Today's win marked the
team's best scoring output of the season for the Tigers.
