Antonio - The 28th-ranked Trinity Tigers
women's tennis team completed a weekend sweep with victories
over Hardin-Simmons University and Laredo Community College on
Saturday.
Trinity (7-6) has now won three consecutive matches on the
year, sweeping Hardin-Simmons 9-0, and then finishing with a 7-2
win over Laredo - the 17th-ranked team in the latest National
Junior College Athletic Association poll. The Tigers opened
up a home weekend of action with a 9-0 shutout of Schreiner
University yesterday.
Kylie Hornbeck and Stephanie Williamson won No.
1 doubles 8-6 against the Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls, while Kathleen
Lundquist and Kristy Hamilton won the No. 2 line 8-4. Caroline
White and Gabrielle Roe blanked their HSU No. 3 doubles opponents
8-0.
Hornbeck prevailed 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles;
and Hamilton was a 6-0, 6-0 winner in the No. 2 match. White took
No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-0; and Roe won 6-0, 6-1 on the No. 4 line.
Rounding out the singles were wins by Lavinia Bendandi (6-0, 6-0)
and Elena Wilson (6-4, 6-3).
Lundquist and Hamilton fell 0-8 at No. 1 doubles
against the Palominos, but Williamson and Hornbeck won 8-2 in the
No. 2 match. Trinity won No. 3 doubles by default.
Hamilton lost 1-6, 0-6 at No. 1 singles, but
Trinity would capture the remaining matches. White won the No. 2
line 6-1, 6-1; and Roe blanked her LCC No. 3 singles opponent 6-0,
6-0. Bendandi improved her season singles record to 7-2 with a 6-2,
6-0 win at No. 4 singles; while Williamson won 6-1, 6-0 in the No.
5 matchup. The Tigers took No. 6 singles by default.
Trinity will be back in action on Monday,
hosting Gustavus Adolphus College at 4:30 p.m.
