Trinity Women's Tennis Named ITA All-Academic Team

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

San Antonio - The Trinity Tigers women's tennis team has been named an All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

All-Academic Teams must have at least a 3.20 grade point average based on a 4.0 scale.

Nine Tiger players also were designated as ITA Scholar-Athletes, who must have a GPA of 3.50 or higher. Lavina Bendandi, Kylie Hornbeck, Kathleen Lundquist, and Laura Roa graduated last May and received the ITA accolades. Juniors Kristy Hamilton, Gabrielle Roe and Caroline White earned the distinction, as did sophomores Kaitlyn Thompson and Elena Wilson.

Trinity (14-9) advanced to the NCAA Division III Championship second round. The Tigers defeated Otterbein University 5-2 in the opening round at Fredericksburg, Virginia. Host Mary Washington University, ranked No. 21, beat Trinity 5-1 in the second round.

Matthew Haugen served as interim head coach during the spring season. Former Tiger four-time All-American Gretchen Rush was appointed permanent head coach near the end of the campaign. Coach Rush won the 1983 NCAA Division I Doubles Championship, and became one of the top-ranked pros in the world.
