San Antonio - The Trinity
Tigers women's tennis team has been named an All-Academic
Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
All-Academic Teams must have at least a 3.20
grade point average based on a 4.0 scale.
Nine Tiger players also were designated as ITA
Scholar-Athletes, who must have a GPA of 3.50 or higher. Lavina
Bendandi, Kylie Hornbeck, Kathleen Lundquist, and Laura Roa
graduated last May and received the ITA accolades. Juniors Kristy
Hamilton, Gabrielle Roe and Caroline White earned the distinction,
as did sophomores Kaitlyn Thompson and Elena Wilson.
Trinity (14-9) advanced to the NCAA Division III
Championship second round. The Tigers defeated Otterbein University
5-2 in the opening round at Fredericksburg, Virginia. Host Mary
Washington University, ranked No. 21, beat Trinity 5-1 in the
second round.
Matthew Haugen served as interim head coach
during the spring season. Former Tiger four-time All-American
Gretchen Rush was appointed permanent head coach near the end of
the campaign. Coach Rush won the 1983 NCAA Division I Doubles
Championship, and became one of the top-ranked pros in the
world.
