Box Score San Antonio - Trinity's football team
suffered a 38-14 defeat at the hands of 16th-ranked Pacific
Lutheran (WA) University on Saturday evening.
The Tigers fell to 1-3 on the season, remaining winless in two
home games. Last weekend, Trinity picked up its first win of
the season by beating Sul Ross 14-6 in Alpine, Texas.
Trinity and Pacific Lutheran traded touchdowns in the first
quarter, but the Lutes took a 14-7 lead after the opening frame.
Pacific Lutheran took a 21-7 lead in the middle of the second
quarter, but the Tigers answered back with a score of their own to
make it a one-possession game with 99 seconds left until the half.
The Lutes, however, were able to march 71 yards in just 1:08
to steal another score before halftime, making it 28-14.
A 23-yard field goal by the visitors was the only score of the
third quarter, and early in the fourth, PLU quarterback Dalton
Ritchey capped a strong performance with his fourth rushing
touchdown of the game. Ritchey finished with 81 yards rushing
and four touchdowns on nine carries, as well as completing 20-27
for 244 yards and another score.
Travis Williams led Trinity's offensive game with 73 yards and
two touchdowns on the ground, while Mason Blaschke picked up 58
yards passing and 40 yards rushing on the day.
Trinity's defense forced three turnovers in the game, including
an interception on the first series of the game. The Tigers
were unable to capitalize on any of those miscues, though,
finishing with zero points off turnovers.
Camden Joubert led the defense with nine tackles, while Jai
Boatman and Julian Turner picked up eight tackles each.
Turner had 1.5 tackles for a loss of four total yards as
well. Connor Yorloff and Caleb Green both picked up
interceptions, while Brad Hood had a fumble recovery.
Matthew Kennemer was electrifying as a kick returner, picking up
181 yards on five returns in the game. His kick return
yardage total is the second-highest in Trinity single-game history,
trailing only a 191-yard effort by Caleb Urban against Huntingdon
in 2010. Kennemer had three returns of more than 40 yards in
the game, including a long of 56 yards.
Trinity will be back on the road for the third time in four
games next weekend, facing off against Hardin-Simmons University at
1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 4.
