Box Score 2 Abilene, Texas - The Tiger women's
tennis team fell 6-1 to the host Abilene Christian University
Wildcats on the final day of the ACU Indoors on Saturday.
Trinity (2-1) opened its season on Friday, scoring a
pair of victories in Abilene. The team opened the ACU Indoors
with a 5-2 victory over NCAA Division I member Prairie View A&M
University, and concluded the day by blanking Division III opponent
Hardin-Simmons University 9-0.
The only Tiger point against Abilene Christian,
in transition from Division II to Division I, came at No. 6 singles
as Nicole Rueb won her match by default. Kristy Hamilton and Blaire
Porter took No. 3 doubles, also by default, as ACU won two of the
three opening matches to corral the doubles point. Southwick and
Lutz lost 6-2 on the No. 1 line, and Gabrielle Roe and Cheyenne
Duncan fell 6-1 at No. 2.
The top five singles matches were all
straight-sets wins for the Wildcats. Southwick, Lutz, Roe, Porter,
and Caroline White made up the Tigers order of play.
With the opening weekend in the books, Trinity
will play four away matches, with three against Division II
members. First up will be the University of the Incarnate Word
(Division II) on February 7 in San Antonio, followed by a trip to
Austin, Texas, February 13, to meet St. Edward's University,
ranked No. 32 in Division II. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor
of Division III hosts Trinity on February 14 in Belton, Texas. St.
Mary's University, No. 16 in DII, plays host to the Tigers
February 28 on its San Antonio campus.
The Butch Newman Tennis Center will be the site of
Trinity's home opener March 1, as Trinity meets ninth-ranked
Rollins College of Division II.
