Box Score Austin, Texas - The Trinity Tigers
women's tennis team fell 7-1 to Division II St.
Edward's University at Strohmeyer Tennis Courts on
Friday.
Trinity (2-3) has now lost three straight games after
opening the year with a pair of wins. St. Edward's
improves to 2-1, and is ranked No. 32 in Division II.
The Tigers only point came at No. 6 singles as
Kristy Hamilton won 6-2, 4-6, 6-0.
The three doubles matches were tight battles.
Marie Lutz and Liza Southwick were edged 8-6 in No. 1 doubles,
while Blaire Porter and Cheyenne Duncan lost the No. 2 line by the
same score. Gabrielle Roe and Caroline White came up just short 9-8
(7-4) in the No. 3 match.
Southwick fought hard but lost 6-7, 7-6, 1-0 in
No. 1 singles. Lutz went down 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, Roe fell
6-0, 6-3 on the No. 3 line, and Porter lost 6-2, 6-2 to her
opponent in the No. 4 matchup. White was down 4-6 after the first
set of No. 5 singles, but it was halted before the second set could
begin.
Trinity travels up Interstate 35 Saturday to take on the
University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in a Division III match at 10:00
a.m. in Belton, Texas. The Tigers will play St. Mary's
University, ranked 16th in Division II, on February 28 on the
Rattlers courts in San Antonio. Trinity's home-opener is
slated for March 1 as the Tigers host Rollins College, No. 9 in
DII, at noon.
