Box Score San Antonio - The Tiger women's
tennis team lost 8-1 in an inter-divisional match against Division
II St. Mary's University on Thursday.
Trinity (3-4) is a member of the NCAA Division III,
with a 2-0 record within the division. St. Mary's (5-1) is
ranked No. 16 in Division II. The match was originally scheduled
for Saturday, and was moved up because of imminent bad weather.
Cheyenne Duncan prevailed at No. 6 singles 3-6,
6-4, 10-4, with a tiebreaker played instead of a third set.
Caroline White gave a good battle at No. 5 singles, coming up just
short 4-6, 7-5, 10-6.
Liza Southwick and Marie Lutz played No. 1
doubles, Duncan and Blaire Porter were at the No. 2 line, and
White and Gabrielle Roe took the court in the No. 3 matchup. Lutz,
Southwick, Porter, and Roe lost in straight sets at Nos. 1-4
singles.
The Tigers make their home debut Sunday by
hosting Rollins College (FL), ranked ninth in Division II, at noon
at the Butch Newman Tennis Stadium.
