Box Score 2 Claremont, California - Trinity's 40th-ranked women's tennis team lost for the second time in three matches on its West Coast road trip, dropping an 8-1 decision at eighth-ranked Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Tuesday.
The Tigers fall to 4-7 on the season after this evening's loss, while Pomona improves to 4-1. Trinity opened the long road trip with a shutout win over Caltech on Sunday, but the team has now lost back-to-back matches to top 10 opponents after also falling against #6 Bowdoin College on Monday.
Trinity's lone point in today's contest came from Caroline White at line three of singles. White took the tiebreaker third set 10-8 to avoid the shutout. She won the first 6-4, but lost the second 3-6 to set up her win in the final set. All the other singles matches were straight-set wins for Pomona.
After a lopsided loss at No. 3 doubles, Trinity rallied to cut it close at the top two lines. Cheyenne Duncan and Blaire Porter were down 3-6 at line two, but rallied to make it 6-7. The duo eventually fell 8-6, though, and Pomona led 2-0. At the top doubles position, Liza Southwick and Marie Lutz battled back to 5-5 after trailing 2-5 early on. The rally fell short, though, as the duo also lost 8-6.
Trinity will finish off its trip with its fifth match in the last six days, facing off against #31 Chapman University. The Tigers will then be off until March 27, when the team returns home to host Midwestern State University.
