Box Score 2 Pasadena, California - The Tiger women's tennis team opened up its 2015 West Coast road trip with a 9-0 win over the California Institute of Technology on Sunday evening.
Trinity improved to 4-5 overall this season, which includes a 3-0 record against Division III opponents. Today marks the first of four straight match days for the Tigers, who will continue with a neutral match against Bowdoin (ME) College tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. (Pacific).
Sunday's matchup began with Trinity sweeping the doubles competition to start off on the right foot, taking a 3-0 advantage into singles play. The Tigers then proceeded to win five of the six singles matchups in straight sets en route to the team's second shutout victory of the year.
Cheyenne Duncan won the lone three-set match of the day, taking a 6-3, 5-7, 12-10 victory to improve to 3-1 in singles this season. Today's match was her first at line five in singles, having played from the sixth position in her previous three outings.
Four other Trinity players helped account for two points each on Sunday, led by Liza Soutwick's top line wins in both singles and doubles. Blaire Porter teamed with Duncan for a doubles victory, as well as a No. 3 singles win. Gabrielle Roe and Caroline White also won at line three doubles, and both also took singles victories for the Tigers. Kristy Hamilton won at line six singles, while Marie Lutz teamed up with Southwick for the top line doubles point.
Following tomorrow's matchup with Bowdoin, the Tigers will face off against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and Chapman University the next two days. Trinity will return home on March 27, hosting Midwestern State (TX) University at 1:00 p.m.
