Richardson, Texas -- The 31st-ranked Trinity Tigers women's tennis team opened its road trip with an 8-1 victory Saturday over the University of Texas-Dallas Comets. Trinity improved to 7-8 on the season.
Liza Southwick and Marie Lutz won No. 1 doubles, Gabrielle Roe and Caroline White improved to 6-4 by winning the No. 2 match, and Cheyenne Duncan and Blaire Porter took the No. 3 line.
UT-Dallas' only point came at No. 1 singles as Southwick was edged 10-6 in a third-set tiebreaker. All of the rest of the Tigers' wins came in straight sets, including Lutz at No. 2 singles, and White on the No. 3 line. White evened her record at 7-7 after the victory. Roe also improved to 7-7 after taking No. 4 singles, and Nicole Rueb now stands at 6-2 after winning the No. 5 line. Duncan was the No. 6 singles winner and has a 5-2 mark this season.
The Tigers travel to Tyler, Texas, Sunday to meet No. 38 University of Texas-Tyler at 10:00 a.m. The match was originally scheduled for last Friday, but was postponed because of weather conditions. Trinity will defend its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference title April 24-26 at the SCAC Championships in Georgetown, Texas.
