Box Score Tyler, Texas - The 31st-ranked Trinity women's tennis team wrapped up its regular season campaign with a 6-3 victory Sunday over No. 38 University of Texas-Tyler.
Trinity now stands at 8-8 overall, and is 7-2 in NCAA Division III competition. The Tigers began their road trip Saturday with an 8-1 win over the University of Texas-Dallas at Richardson, Texas.
The Tigers opened the matchup with the Patriots by taking two of three doubles matches. Liza Southwick and Marie Lutz handily won the No. 1 match, while Gabrielle Roe and Caroline White edged their opponents 9-7 on the No. 2 line. Roe and White are sporting a 7-4 doubles record this season. Cheyenne Duncan and Blaire Porter came up short 8-6 in No. 3 doubles, narrowly missing out on a 3-0 lead heading into singles.
Trinity captured the first four singles matches, though, and clinched the team victory. Southwick won the No. 1 line and Lutz won No. 2 singles, as both were victorious in straight sets. White upped her singles record to 8-7 after winning No. 3 singles in three sets. Roe also stands at 8-7 after winning a two-set matchup at No. 4 singles. Nicole Rueb and Duncan lost three-setters at Nos. 5 and 6 singles, respectively.
The defending Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference champion Tigers are ready for the SCAC Championship, to be played Friday through next Sunday at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. The pairings will be announced this week.
