Box Score San Antonio - The Trinity Tigers women's tennis team had six players named as Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Tournament honorees.
Players earned slots on the team after going undefeated at the SCAC Tournament, which was held April 24-26 at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. The top-seeded Tigers received a bye into the semifinals, when they shut out Texas Lutheran University by a score of 5-0. Trinity then beat Colorado College 5-1 to win a fourth consecutive SCAC crown. It also marked the program's 19th overall women's tennis championship.
Liza Southwick went 2-0 at No. 2 singles, and Gabrielle Roe was 1-0 in the No. 4 match. All of Trinity's three doubles teams sported 2-0 records at the tournament. Southwick and Marie Lutz represented the Tigers at No. 1 doubles, Roe and Caroline White were the No. 2 tandem, and Cheyenne Duncan and Blaire Porter played the No. 3 match.
Trinity also won the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Playoffs. Regional pairings will be announced May 4, and the winners advance to the NCAA Championship May 18-20 at Mason, Ohio. The Tigers reached the NCAA Second Round of the playoffs last year.
The team is led by former Trinity All-American Gretchen Rush, in her first season at the helm. Trinity stands at 10-8 on the season, and is 9-2 against Division III opponents.
