Box Score 2 San Antonio - The Tiger women's tennis team opened its fall schedule by co-hosting the flighted Trinity/Incarnate Word Quad Meet over the weekend.
Trinity first-year player Caroline Kutsch finished as runner-up in the Flight 2 Singles event. Senior Gabby Roe and first-year Andrea de Leon tied for the second slot in Flight 5 Singles. Newcomer Hannah Cook took second place in Flight 8, while junior Liza Southwick was a third-place finisher in Flight 3.
Two Tiger players earned special recognition. Senior Caroline White was presented the Sportsmanship Award, and sophomore Marie Lutz received the Spirit Award.
Trinity will compete Friday, September 18, to Sunday, September 20, at the USTA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southwest Region Championships in Georgetown, Texas. Southwestern University will host the event. The singles and doubles winners advance to the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships October 15-18 at Sumter, South Carolina.
Last year, Southwick and Lutz captured the Regional Doubles title, in front of the hometown fans at the Butch Newman Tennis Center. The two All-Americans qualified for the national tournament, where they finished in fifth place. Southwick and Lutz also competed in the NCAA Division III Doubles Championship last May at Mason, Ohio.
