Box Score Walla Walla, Washington - Trinity's women's tennis team continued an extended road trip to the Northwest with a 7-2 victory over Linfield College on Saturday.
The Tigers evened their record at 2-2 this season, in a match that was played at Whitman College's Bratton Indoor Tennis Center. Trinity defeated Whitman 5-4 yesterday, but suffered a 5-4 loss to Lewis & Clark later in the day.
Today's match against Linfield started off with a bang, as the Tigers swept all three doubles points to take control early. The Wildcats answered with a win to start off singles, but Marie Lutz and Gabrielle Roe took straight-set victories for the Tigers, clinching the match with a 5-1 lead.
Roe and Lutz were both doubles winners as well for Trinity. Roe teamed with Blaire Porter for a narrow 8-6 win at line two, while Lutz and Liza Southwick cruised to a top-line win in doubles. Porter joined the Tiger duo as the only three to win both singles and doubles today, taking a 6-1, 6-1 singles win from her sixth position.
"It was a great team effort, sweeping the doubles," said Head Coach
Gretchen Rush. "Gabrielle was the first off in singles to give us the 4-1 lead, and then Marie sealed the deal with a great, solid win."
Trinity concludes its road trip with a match against the University of Redlands on Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m. (PST). The Tigers return home for a Saturday doubleheader against Tyler Junior College and Texas Lutheran University on February 20.
