Box Score 1 San Antonio - The 24th-ranked Tiger women's tennis team opened its Spring Break Invitational with a 9-0 shutout of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX) on Friday evening.
Trinity has won three matches in a row - all by shutout - and stand at 6-5 on the season. Trinity also improved its record against NCAA Division III opponents to 6-2.
Head Coach Gretchen Rush relayed her team's feelings after the match: "The team was very relaxed, and happy for the beautiful weather after two days of solid rain."
Trinity did not drop a set in its victory over the Crusaders, and gave up only one doubles point. Marie Lutz and Caroline Kutach won No. 1 doubles, and remained undefeated with 6-0 record. Liza Southwick and Gabrielle Roe upped their record to 5-1 by winning No. 2 doubles, and Cheyenne Duncan and Andrea De Leon are 3-0 as a team by taking the third line.
Lutz, the two-time reigning Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week, won No. 1 singles to improve to 7-3 on the season. Down the line, wins were scored by Kutach, Southwick, Roe, De Leon, and Duncan.
The Tigers will host 37th-ranked East Texas Baptist University at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, and Gustavus Adolphus (MN) College at 10:00 a.m. Monday.
