Box Score 2 San Antonio - The 24th-ranked Trinity women's tennis team scored an 8-1 victory over No. 37 East Texas Baptist University on Saturday.
The match played at the Butch Newman Tennis Center is part of the Trinity Spring Break Invitational. Trinity has won four consecutive matches and stands at 7-5 overall. Additionally, the Tigers are sporting a 7-2 record against NCAA Division III opponents.
"The team played great on a perfect San Antonio spring day," said Head Coach Gretchen Rush. "This was our best tennis of the season so far."
Trinity won all three doubles matches, including the No. 1 line played by Marie Lutz and Caroline Kutach. The Tiger tandem remained undefeated with a 7-0 dual-match record. Liza Southwick and Gabrielle Roe took No. 2 doubles, and now stand at 6-1. The No. 3 doubles team of Cheyenne Duncan and Andrea De Leon are posting a record of 4-0.
The Tigers only loss came at No. 1 singles, as Lutz fell to nationally ranked Kayla Casey of East Texas Baptist in straight sets. Lutz is now 7-4 in singles competition.
Kutach won at No. 2 singles, Southwick took the third match, and Roe improved her record to 8-4 by winning No. 4 singles. De Leon upped her mark to 7-4 with a victory at No. 5 singles, and Duncan took the sixth match. All of Trinity singles wins were two-setters.
Up next for the Tigers will be a Monday morning home match with Gustavus Adolphus (MN) College. The match is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
