Kerrville, Texas - Trinity's women's tennis team secured a fifth consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference title with a 5-1 victory over Southwestern University on Sunday.

The Tigers entered the tournament as the top seed in the conference, and today's win marks the 20th SCAC crown in Trinity women's tennis history.  Trinity improved to 14-9 after the victory over the Pirates, who were the #2 seed in the league.

All three doubles matches ended with Tiger victories, including the #1 matchup, with Liza Southwick and Marie Lutz prevailing 9-8 in a tightly played match. Cheyenne Duncan and Caroline Kutach took the second line, and Andrea De Leon and Blaire Porter won #3 doubles.

Only three singles matches were completed before a decision was reached in today's match. De Leon took the fourth line in straight sets, and Southwick clinched the match by winning #3 singles. Southwick also posted the clincher in Trinity's 5-0 semifinals win over hosting Schreiner University on Saturday. Southwestern's only win of the day came at #2 singles, as Kutach lost in two sets.

"Our team played very well at the end of the doubles sets," said Head Coach Gretchen Rush. "Southwestern is much improved, and really played well. Andrea and Liza sewed up the win after Marie and Caroline struggled. It was a great team effort."

Trinity also garnered the automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs, which open May 13-15, at a site to be determined. The 24th-ranked Tigers are expected to receive the official bid on May 9. The NCAA Team Championship is slated for May 23-25, at Kalamazoo, Michigan. The Singles and Doubles Championships, will be held May 26-28, also at Kalamazoo.
