Box Score Bishop, Texas - The 24th-ranked Trinity women's tennis team edged NCAA Division II member Texas A&M University Kingsville 5-4 on Saturday.
The Tigers improved to 11-9, and snapped a four-match losing streak. A&M-Kingsville dropped to 5-12 after the loss.
Trinity started off with a 2-1 lead after doubles. Marie Lutz and Liza Southwick won No. 1 doubles, while Blaire Porter and Andrea De Leon took the No. 3 line by the tight score of 8-6. Cheyenne Duncan and Caroline Kutach came up short in the No. 2 match.
The Tigers widened the lead to 4-1, as Duncan won No. 6 singles, and Kutach was victorious on the No. 3 line. The Javelinas rallied slightly by winning No. 2 singles, as Southwick took the loss. The clincher for the Tigers came at No. 5 singles with Gabrielle Roe doing the honors. Lutz lost a three-setter at No. 1 singles, as did De Leon at No. 4, after the match had been decided.
Trinity concludes its regular season home schedule next weekend, starting with a matchup with #35 University of Texas-Tyler at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Tigers then host Schreiner University at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 17.
