San Antonio - Trinity All-Americans Liza Southwick and Marie Lutz have received a bid to the 16-draw NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Doubles Championship.

Southwick, a junior, and Lutz, a sophomore, will compete May 26-28 at Kalamazoo, Michigan. The Tiger tandem earned a slot in the tournament for the second consecutive year.  Currently, the doubles team is ranked fourth in the West Region, and stands at 7-4 in dual matches.

Last fall, Southwick and Lutz captured the USTA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southwest Region Doubles Championship for the second straight time. They advanced to the National Small College Championships, and finished in sixth place. Their first regional championship occurred in 2014, which later resulted in a fifth-place performance at the national event.

The 24th-ranked Trinity team opens play Friday at the regionals of the NCAA Championship tournament at Claremont, California. Trinity (14-9) takes on #33 University of Texas-Tyler in the first round at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time. The winner plays fourth-ranked and host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges at 10:00 Saturday in the second round. #3 Pomona-Pitzer (CA) Colleges meets the winner of 18th-ranked Lewis & Clark (OR) College and the University of California-Santa Cruz. Sunday's regional final begins at 2:00 p.m., with the winner advancing to the NCAA quarterfinals May 23 at Kalamazoo. The semifinals and final are slated for May 24-25.

Second-year Head Coach Gretchen Rush guided the Tigers to a fifth consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship, which earned Trinity an automatic bid to the Playoffs. It also marks the fifth straight appearance for the Tigers in the NCAA postseason event.
