Box Score 2 San Antonio - Trinity women's tennis players Liza Southwick and Marie Lutz have received Division III All-America doubles honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for the second consecutive year.
Southwick, a junior, and Lutz, a sophomore, competed in the 16-draw NCAA Doubles Championship for the second straight time. Last fall, the Tiger tandem won the USTA/ITA Southwest Region crown for the second year in a row. Southwick and Lutz advanced to the ITA National Small College Doubles Championship, and finished in sixth place. Their first regional championship occurred in 2014, which later resulted in a fifth-place performance at the ITA Nationals.
During the dual-match season, Southwick and Lutz amassed a record of 8-5 at #1 doubles. They finished the campaign ranked 18th nationally, and #4 in the West Region. The pair also earned All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference kudos.
Led by second-year Head Coach Gretchen Rush, the Tigers won a fifth consecutive SCAC Championship. After receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs, Trinity beat the University of Texas-Tyler in the opening round, and then lost to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CA) Colleges in the second.
Trinity completed the season with a 15-10 record, and a final ITA national ranking of 23rd. The Tigers finished with a #5 ranking in the West Region.
