Box Score San Antonio - The third-ranked Trinity volleyball team opened the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Divisional Tournament with a 3-1 victory over Texas Lutheran University Friday night.
MATCH SUMMARY
The Tigers defeated the Bulldogs 25-18, 25-16, 23-25, 25-19 to open the two-day event.
Five unanswered points late in the first set were key to Trinity's opening-set victory, then the Tigers carried the momentum to a relatively easy win in the second to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The teams were neck-and-neck late in the third set, but Trinity was unable to finish off the sweep. The fourth was also close, but the Tigers scored seven of the final 10 points to pull off the victory.
NOTABLES
The Tigers improved their overall record to 19-4, and now stand at 7-1 in the SCAC.
Katrina Lieberman recorded 47 assists to set a team season-high for assists in a four-set match, and she also had a double-double with 12 digs.
Kirby Smith also had a double-double with 16 kills and 13 digs to her credit, as well as posting a .300 hitting percentage in the match. Smith moved into ninth place in Trinity career kills.
Sarah Mullens led the Tigers with 24 digs to eclipse 1,300 in her careeer, moving into a tie for 12th all-time.
Madeline McKay accounted for 14 kills, while Annie Rose Leggett finished with 12 digs.
