Box Score San Antonio - The 23rd-ranked Trinity women's tennis team lost to Division II members St. Mary's (TX) University and Texas A&M University-Kingsville on Saturday.
MATCH SUMMARIES
Trinity started the day with a 9-0 loss at St. Mary's, beginning with three competitive doubles matches. Liza Southwick took the first set of her top-line singles match, but lost the second, and then fell short in a 10-6 tiebreaker.
In the second matchup of the day, the Tigers were edged 5-4 by Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Trinity started off strong, winning two of the three doubles matches. Zoe Kaffen and Marie Lutz won the top doubles 8-6, while Southwick and Mary Kaffen took the second line. Caroline Kutach and Cheyenne Duncan lost the third doubles match 8-6.
The Javelinas won three straight singles matches to take command of the match, but Andrea DeLeon scored a 7-6, 6-4 win at line six, and the Tigers trailed just 4-3 overall.
The clincher came at #2 singles, with Kutach losing a hard-fought 4-6, 7-5, 10-7 battle, and Southwick finished out the match by winning #1 singles 7-5, 7-5.
