Box Score San Antonio - The top-seeded Trinity women's tennis team defeated #4 seed Austin (TX) College 5-0 in the semifinals of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday.
HIGHLIGHTS
16th-ranked Trinity earned its sixth consecutive berth in the SCAC final. The Tigers will meet second-seeded and 28th-ranked Southwestern (TX) University for the championship.
The doubles teams of Liza Southwick/Marie Lutz, Caroline Kutach/Zoe Kaffen, and Andrea De Leon/Mary Kaffen gave Trinity a 3-0 lead entering singles.
Needing just two singles wins to claim the victory, Lutz started the procedure by getting the nod on the #3 line. The clincher came at #4 singles, with Zoe Kaffen doing the honors.
Southwick's #1 singles matchup did not finish, as well as the #2 match played by Kutach. De Leon and Mary Kaffen's Nos. 5 and 6 singles matches were halted after the decision was reached.
NOTABLES
The Tigers won their sixth straight match and improved to 16-7. Austin College now stands at 10-10, and will play #3 Colorado College for third place.
Trinity and Southwestern will meet for the conference crown for the second straight year. The Tigers have won five SCAC Championships in a row.
All three doubles teams remained undefeated this season, while Zoe Kaffen upped her singles record to 14-6.
