Three Tiger Women's Tennis Players Advance at ITA Regionals

Abilene, Texas - Three Trinity singles players and a doubles team advanced in the main draws on the opening day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southwest Region Championships on Friday.

 

HIGHLIGHTS

Third-seeded Ashley DeBauge defeated Amanda Schenck of host Hardin-Simmons (TX) University and Nina Elez of Southwestern (TX) University in the opening rounds of "A" Singles. 

Fifth-seeded Zoe Kaffen claimed victories over Anna Sergiovanni of Austin (TX) College and Stephanie Joseph of the University of Texas-Dallas.

Mary Kaffen, seeded in the 9-16 category, beat Adrienne Large of UT-Dallas and Kelsey Roberts of East Texas Baptist University.

DeBauge, Zoe Kaffen, and Mary Kaffen will play in Saturday's main-draw Round of 16.

The defending Regional champion Kaffen sisters advanced to Saturday's "A" Doubles Quarterfinals. The second-seeded duo bested Samantha Travenio and Savannah Orton of LeTourneau (TX) University,  and then beat Abigail Kendall and Kyra Mobley of Hardin-Simmons.

There are also draws for "B", "C", and "D" Singles, along with "B" Doubles and consolation play.

The "A" Singles and Doubles champions will advance to the ITA Cup, to be held October 17-20 at Rome, Georgia.

 

UP NEXT

The "A" Singles Round of 16 is slated for 8:00 a.m., Saturday, and the the main-draw Doubles Quarterfinals will begin at 3:30 p.m.
