Box Score 2 SAN ANTONIO - Trinity University Women's Tennis resumed its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule Sunday morning with an 8-1 victory over University of St. Thomas.
The Tigers (6-6, 2-0 SCAC) have yet to surrender to a NCAA III opponent in 2021 and have allowed a total of six team points across their six NCAA III matchups.
Senior Zoe Kaffen (San Juan Capistrano, Calif. / Jserra Catholic) earned Trinity's clincher with a contentious 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 bout in No. 1 Singles, one of three individual matchups to feature a set-tiebreaker or a third set. Kaffen also led-off the day with her sister, senior Mary Kaffen, to score a shutout tally in line-two doubles. Mary added Trinity's fourth team point with a 6-2, 6-1 mark in line four of singles.
First-year Cate Cushing (Colleyville, Texas / Colleyville Heritage) was also part of a two-point performance as she and junior Megan Flores (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake) collected an 8-3 score from No. 1 Doubles before the Tiger rookie came away victorious from one of Trinity's two three-set singles matchups.
The doubles sweep was completed by the line-three pair of senior Annie Wise (Tulsa, Okla. / Holland) and first-year Ellie Hughes (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) on a second 8-3 mark.
Two-time SCAC Singles Player of the Week in 2021, first-year Elodie Richard (Allen, Texas / Allen) and senior Paulina Garcia (San Antonio, Texas / The Episcopal School of Texas) rounded out singles action with 6-1, 6-0 performances in lines five and six, repsectively.
Trinity Women's Tennis hosts a SCAC doubleheader Saturday as Southwestern University and Schreiner University each pay a visit to San Antonio.
