Box Score San Antonio – Trinity's softball team swept a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader with a pair of five-inning 8-0 wins over the University of Dallas on Saturday.
The Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth of game one to initiate the run rule, capped by a walk-off RBI single by Marina Delaluna (Concord, Calif. / Concord) with two outs. Emily Vaclavik (Richmond, Texas / Travis) did the same with her RBI single in the seventh inning of game two.
Trinity evens its record at 14-14 this season and now holds a 10-9 mark in conference play. Dallas falls to 4-20 overall and 2-18 in SCAC.
Allie Holbrook (San Juan Capistrano, Calif. / San Juan Hills) was dominant in the circle for the Tigers, picking up both victories after pitching four innings to start each game. She allowed just one hit and struck out four batters in each appearance.
The Rundown: Game 1
Trinity started the day with a four-run first inning, beginning with an RBI single from Jordyn Williams (Clayton, Calif. / Valley Charter). Katherine Weber (Canyon Lake, Texas / Canyon Lake) also drove in a run with her line drive off the foot of the Dallas pitcher. Weber then stole second base and Diamond Elizondo (San Antonio, Texas / Stevens) took home on the throw.
Holbrook was perfect through the first eight batters, then allowed her only hit of the game with two outs in the third inning. It was the only baserunner she allowed in her four-inning start.
The Tigers loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the third, but stranded all three runners. Trinity was able to get on the board in the fourth, taking advantage of two Dallas errors and scoring on Delaluna's single off the third-base bag.
Cat Patterson (West Columbia, Texas / Brazosport Christian) came on in relief of Holbrook in the fifth and pitched around a two-out walk to keep the shutout intact.
In the bottom of the inning, Jenna Kash (Flower Mound, Texas / Flower Mound) got the scoring started with a two-run single to left field. Following a walk and a fielder's choice for the second out of the inning, Delaluna delivered her game-ending hit to left-center that finished off the win.
The Rundown: Game 2
The Tigers scored in all but one inning of the second half of the twinbill, beginning with a single run in the bottom of the first. Delaluna drove in the initial run on a ground out to short to bring in Vaclavik for a 1-0 lead.
Holbrook was once again on top of her game from the circle, ensuring that the first-inning run was all she needed. She retired the first nine batters she faced before allowing a leadoff single in the fourth.
Madison Horn (Schertz, Texas / Clemens) started the four-run second inning with a squeeze play that turned into a bunt single to third. Kash supplied an infield single to score another run, followed by Vaclavik's ground ball through the left side to make it a 4-0 game. Williams reached on a fielder's choice to finish off the scoring in the inning.
MK Stark (Bellville, Texas / Bellville) upped the score to 6-0 with her RBI triple in the third, then the Tigers had their only empty inning in the fourth.
Patterson relieved Holbrook again in the fifth inning of game two, retiring the side in order to set up the final inning.
After pinch-hit singles from Kristina Kish (Tucson, Ariz. / Canyon Del Oro) and Brooke Porter (Carmel, Ind. / Heritage Christian) to start the inning, Sammie Whitman (Austin, Texas / Lake Travis) drove in Kish with a single up the middle. Vaclavik then laced a line drive into left field to end the doubleheader with another run-rule victory for the Tigers.
Numbers to Note

Coach Speak
"The bats were certainly hot today," said Head Coach Abby Martin. "We were also very aggressive on the bases, which put a lot of pressure on them defensively. We need to get a little sharper running the bases, though. Defense was great all day. Tomorrow we are excited to honor our six seniors!"
