No. 4/5 Trinity Blasts Centenary to Open SCAC Play on Friday

Box Score SHREVEPORT, La. – The No. 4/5 Trinity women's basketball team opened Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a 100-42 victory over Centenary College on Friday night.

The Tigers improved to 8-0 this season with the win, while the Ladies fell to 0-10 in a game that was also their first conference game of the season. Trinity has now won 22 consecutive conference games, dating back to January of 2021.

Ashlyn Milton (Amarillo, Texas / Amarillo) put together an impressive double-double in just 20 minutes on the floor, collecting 24 points to go with a career-high 10 rebounds. She also led the Tigers with six steals, hitting 10-of-21 from the field and 4-for-9 from three-point range.

Jailyn Martin (Ashburn, Va. / Virginia Academy) led Trinity with 11 rebounds in just 10 minutes off the bench, adding four assists to her stat line. Bailey Timmons (Argyle, Texas / Argyle) led the bench with 12 points in 11 minutes of play, hitting 5-of-9 from the floor and a pair of three-point baskets.

Maggie Robbins (Plano, Texas / Plano) and Josie Napoli (Beaverton, Ore. / Valley Catholic) matched the point total of Timmons to give Trinity three players with an even dozen and four total in double figures. Robbins also had four rebounds, six assists, and three steals, connecting on five of her six shots. Napoli dished out a team-leading seven assists and matched her career-high with five steals.

Trinity will finish off the conference weekend on the road at the University of St. Thomas on Sunday afternoon.

The Rundown
Trinity was in command from the start, beginning with a 13-0 run that lasted just over three minutes. Milton scored six of the 13 points and had five steals during that stretch, then added another bucket just before the starters were subbed out with 4:43 left in the quarter. The lead got back to 13 points with just under four minutes left, then Centenary made three straight shots to make it a 16-9 game. That proved to be the final margin as neither team scored again over the final 1:45 of the quarter.

Centenary had its best stretch of the night, scoring 15 points in the second quarter. The Tigers still increased the lead, though, as Robbins and Napoli scored all nine of Trinity's opening run that pushed it to a 25-9 game less than three minutes into the period. The Ladies scored the next six to bring the deficit back to just 10 points, but a fastbreak and-one from Napoli gave Trinity a 13-point advantage as the second wave entered the game with under five minutes left in the half. This time the Tiger reserves widened the margin, led by eight points from Timmons in a 60-second span to account for the halftime score of 41-24.

The Tigers came out of the locker room with a monster third quarter, outscoring Centenary 32-13 to take a 73-37 lead heading into the final 10 minutes. Milton led a 14-4 Trinity run by scoring eight points herself in just over three minutes, making it a 55-28 game. She wound up scoring 11 of her 24 points in the third, despite playing just half of the period. Trinity's bench overwhelmed Centenary over the final four minutes of the third, outscoring the Ladies 13-3 to close out the best quarter of the night for the Tigers.

Trinity opened the final quarter with 13 unanswered points to take an 86-37 lead, and the Tiger defense was unrelenting – allowing just five total points in the period to finish the game just as strong as it started. Even after the starters left, Trinity finished with a 14-5 run that included seven straight to finish off the win and reach triple digits.

Numbers to Note
Head Coach Cameron Hill broke the Trinity women's basketball record for victories tonight, securing his 229th career win that includes an impressive .883 winning percentage. Hill is ninth among active coaches (with at least 10 seasons) in all NCAA divisions in winning percentage, as well as fifth among active NCAA III coaches.

Trinity's 32-point third quarter is the fifth time this season that the Tigers have scored 30 or more in a period, as well as the 14th time the team has reached that total over the past two seasons. The 32-point third quarter tonight matches the prolific third quarter that Trinity had against Centenary in February 2022.

Trinity scored 42 points off of 35 turnovers forced in tonight's game and had a 30-10 margin in fast break scoring.

A'Nnika Saenz (Edinburg, Texas / Edinburg) scored all six of her points in tonight's game during the third quarter.

Elaine King (Cedar Park, Texas / Cedar Park) grabbed seven rebounds to go with four points in just 11 minutes on the floor, while Natalie Anderson (San Jose, Calif. / Archbishop Mitty) had six rebounds – including five offensive boards – in just 10 minutes.

Coach Speak
Nuke LaLoosh wore a garter belt under his game pants, Jobu needed his rum, Cerrano needed a live chicken (but settled for a bucket of KFC), and Roy Hobbs just needed a second chance" said Coach Hill after the milestone win. "Giants hats, blue words, double socks, and a second trip to Trinity has turned out pretty well. Thanks to everyone who has helped us along the way. Tonight was very special. I appreciate everything about it."

Up Next
Trinity will travel to Houston, Texas, to take on the University of St. Thomas at Noon on Sunday, December 4. The Tigers won't play again until returning home to Calgaard Gym on December 19.
