SAN ANTONIO - No. 19 Trinity University Women's Tennis put together its second shutout through four matches to open the 2022 season Sunday with a 9-0 victory over Sunday's in-region visitor, No. 37 Hardin-Simmons University.
The Tigers (3-1) remain undefeated against NCAA III comeptition to start the campaign, on a combined 26-1 tally.
Reigning Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekly doubles honorees, first-years Olivia Kim (Phoenix, Ariz. / Desert Mountain) and Ruth Hill (Abilene, Texas / Abilene) continued their career-opening success as the first to check into the book with an 8-2 tally in line two.
The momentum rolled on as line-one duo senior Megan Flores (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake) and sophomore Cate Cushing (Colleyville, Texas / Colleyville Heritage) sealed the doubles sweep, 8-3.
Hill and Kim cruised at lightning speed as the first to log singles victories, which led to the match-clincher falling to Kim. Hill dominated en route to a 6-0, 6-1 mark from the third line while Kim remains undefeated from the second line this season on a pair of 6-3 tallies.
The Tigers weathered a pair of battles to preserve Sunday's shutout as Flores and first-year Jenna Lee (San Clemente, Calif. / Jserra Catholic) each mounted huge comebacks before they overcame the Cowgirls, both in unanswered fashion. Flores collected six-straight after she fell behind 5-1 in her first set, then maintained control to a 6-4 second-set total; Lee managed a 6-2 first-set mark then leaped past HSU's Skylar Rust on a 6-4 second set that saw her trail 4-0.
Trinity Women's Tennis heads out to California next week for four straight in the Golden State. The Tigers lead-off the weekend slate Friday (Feb. 25) with back-to-back matches at California Institute of Technology and at Occidental College.
