Box Score 2 SAN ANTONIO - The Tigers softball team extended their win streak to eight games before losing game two of today's doubleheader against LeTourneau University. Trinity improves to (8-13, 3-0 SCAC) with today's nonconference split. Head Coach Abby Martin also notched her 100th career victory with tonight's game one win.
TU won game one in walk-off fashion after battling back and forth with the Yellow Jackets, first-year OF/C Abigail Miller (Winnetka, Calif. / El Camino Real) stepped up to the plate with the game tied at 3-3 in the home half of the seventh inning and hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score senior 2B Sammie Whitman (Austin, Texas / Lake Travis). The Tigers trailed by as many as nine runs before starting to chip away at the deficit in the fourth inning of game two. Unfortunately, the Yellow Jackets' 15-8 lead was too much to overcome.
The Rundown: Game One
LeTourneau hit a solo homerun in the top of the second running to take a 1-0 lead over the tigers. Trinity added three runs in the third to take a 3-1 lead. Sophomore 3B Marina Delaluna (Concord, Calif. / Concord) led off the inning with a solo shot of her own to tye the game at 1-1. First-year Alexa Saucedo (Harlingen, Texas / Harlingen) followed the solo blast by reaching first on a fielding error by the second baseman and moved over to second after first-year CF Sydney Watson (San Antonio, Texas / San Antonio Christian) laid down a sacrifice bunt. Whitman then singled to put runners on the corners with one out. First-year C/OF Jessica Lloyd (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. / Trabuco Hills) plated a runner on a single up the middle. First-year Lanie Smith (Foxfield, Colo. / Regis Jesuit) then walked to load the bases. The next at-bat, Miller came up clutch with an RBI single. After a pitching change, the Yellow Jackets were able to escape the inning by leaving the bases loaded.
LeTourneau scored a run in the fifth and sixth inning to knot the game up at 3-3. In the bottom of the seventh, Whitman led off with a single through the right side and eventually advanced to third base. Miller again came up to the plate and delivered with a sacrifice fly to score the game-winning run.
Junior pitcher Emery Boettcher (Fredericksburg, Texas / Fredericksburg) earned the win in game one after throwing two scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
The Rundown: Game Two
In game two, the Yellow Jackets quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Miller hit a double to right field and later scored on an error to bring the Tigers within one run. In the top of the third, Letourneau exploded for seven runs to jump out to an 11-1 lead which proved to be too much for the Tigers to overcome. Watson singled and later came around to score on a Yellow Jackets error which made the score 11-2.
The very next inning, Trinity scored five runs to make the score 11-7. Miller led off with a single. A few plays later, the bases were loaded with no outs. Dawson Dabboussi (Dallas, Texas / Highland Park) came in to pinch-hit and brought in two runs on a single to the right side. Watson later singled to score another run. Whitman then found herself at the plate with runners on second and third, the senior cashed in with a single through the left side to bring in both runs. Unfortunately, Trinity was unable to scratch any more runs across the remaining two innings.

The Tigers will host Southwestern University in their home opener conference series. Trinity and the Pirates will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM and will conclude the series with a single game on Sunday at 1:00 PM.
