The Tigers hit the ball all around the park and jumped out to a 3-run lead in the second inning. Senior pitcher Cat Patterson (West Columbia, Texas / Brazosport Christian School) was phenomenal in the circle, despite giving up three earned runs. The senior hurler mowed down five batters while only surrendering seven hits.

First-year catcher Abigail Miller (Winnetka, Calif. / El Camino Real) had a solid day at the dish, going 3-4 with a run batted in. Sophomore third baseman Marina Delaluna (Concord, Calif. / Concord) went 2-4 with a solo homerun. First-year designated player Jessica Lloyd (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. / Trabuco Hills) also went 2-4 at the plate with an RBI. First-year center fielder Sydney Watson (San Antonio, Texas / San Antonio Christian) also went 2-4 with an RBI out of the leadoff spot.

The Rundown

Patterson gave up a two-out single in the top of the first but quickly settled in to retire the next six Pirate hitters. Lloyd and Miller were reached in back-to-back singles in the first but were ultimately stranded.

Delaluna led off the second inning with a solo blast. Senior right fielder Kristina Kish (Tucson, Ariz. / Canyon Del Oro) then tripled down the right-field line. With one out, senior shortstop Madison Horn (Schertz, Texas / Clemens) bunted for a base hit to put runners on first and third. Watson immediately followed that up with a single to bring in another run. An out later, Lloyd singled up the middle to bring in another run and put the Tigers up 3-0.

In the top of the third, Patterson struck out the side. In the fourth, Southwestern led off with a double but Patterson sat down the next three batters to strand her. In the bottom of the fourth, Horn led off by reaching first after getting hit by a pitch. Watson then singled to put two runners on. Later on, Miller hit a two-out RBI single to extend the Trinity lead to 4-0.

The Pirates picked up two runs in the top of the fifth inning. Trinity added one more run in the bottom of the sixth to give TU a 5-2 lead. SU added one more run at the top of the seventh but that was it. Patterson was able to shut the door and earn her sixth win of the season.
