SAN ANTONIO - No. 24 Trinity University Women's Tennis rebounded Tuesday as it rocketed past No. 30 Gustavus Adolphus College (MN), 9-0, at the Newman Tennis Center.
The Tigers (9-6) put together their seventh shutout victory of the 2022 campaign while they showed versatility in the singles lineup as Trinity has played a rigorous schedule recently.
The doubles lines remained constant for the Tigers, and returned to form with strong performances across the book. The first-year duo of Olivia Kim (Phoenix, Ariz. / Desert Mountain) and Ruth Hill (Abilene, Texas / Abilene) sent the momentum through the roof to start the match with a shutout victory in line two.
Megan Flores (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake) and Cate Cushing (Colleyville, Texas / Colleyville Heritage) followed soon after with a fast-paced 8-5 affair from the top line while Ellie Hughes (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) and Sam Miller (Goergetown, Texas / Georgetown) completed the sweep, 8-2.
As part of the shuffle in the singles lineup, Kim made her line-one debut Tuesday night with a 7-5, 6-1 mark which followed Cushing's 6-2, 6-4 clincher in line two, and Hill's quickwork 6-1, 6-1 tally in line three.
Hughes led-off the latter half of the singles lineup with her first straight-sets shutout of the season, third in her career. Jenna Lee (San Clemente, Calif. / Jserra Catholic) stumbled, 6-2, in her first set before blazing through her first line-four matchup of the season with a pair of 6-4 outputs, then Elodie Richard (Allen, Texas / Allen) completed the shutout with a pair of 6-4 victories of her own.
No. 24 Trinity Women's Tennis faces No. 6 Tufts University (MA) tomorrow (March 23) to continue its slate of national contenders this week. The Tigers then battle No. 12 University of Mary Washington (VA) and No. 21 Washington University (MO) Friday and Sunday, respectively.
