SAN ANTONIO - No. 24 Women's Tennis continued its 'measuring-stick' week Wednesday with an evening bout against No. 6 Tufts University which it dropped, 8-1, to the visiting Jumbos.
The Tigers (9-7) have battled a dense slate of strong competition in recent days as they continue to work their way through nationally-ranked squads. Tufts represents the third such opponent in the last three days, the second ranked sixth or higher by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Trinity's tally in the scorebook came from a strong effort to deny the Jumbos a doubles sweep in line-two action. First-years Olivia Kim (Phoenix, Ariz. / Desert Mountain) and Ruth Hill (Abilene, Texas / Abilene) seized control and tied the match at the time with an 8-4 mark.
Kim's strong play spilled over into singles in her second line-one match in as many days. The Tiger rookie blindsided Tufts's 24th-ranked Elle Christensen with a shutout in their first set, but as the clinching point came and went, Kim was not able to retain the momentum en route to a three-set defeat.
Trinity faced three nationally-ranked contests through the lineup Wednesday. Megan Flores (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake) and Cate Cushing (Colleyville, Texas / Colleyville Heritage) stood toe-to-toe with the nation's third-ranked duo while Hill faced the No. 41 singles player in her line-three battle.
No. 24 Trinity Women's Tennis takes a day off Thursday in preparation for No. 12 University of Mary Washington (VA) Friday at 4 p.m. followed by a Sunday-morning matchup with No. 21 Washington University (MO).
