Box Score SHREVEPORT, La. - The Tigers pick up their first win of the season and get off to a hot start in Southern Collegiate Athletic Confernece play. Trinity outpaced the Ladies of Centenary College in a 7-5 win while improving to (1-12, 1-0 SCAC). The Ladies fall to (4-5, 0-1 SCAC).
First-year Alexa Saucedo (Harlingen, Texas / Harlingen) had a big day at the plate going 2-4 with two RBI. Sophomore Jordyn Williams (Clayton, Calif. / Clayton Valley Charter) went 2-4 with two doubles and two RBI on the night as well. Three other Tigers tallied two hits in game one of the series.
The Rundown
First-year Sydney Watson (San Antonio, Texas / San Antonio Christian) led the game off by drawing a walk and advanced to second a play later. First-year Jessica Lloyd (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. / Trabuco Hills) then reached first on an error by the first baseman to put runners on the corners with one out. Lloyd later stole second base and first-year Abigail Miller (Winnetka, Calif. / El Camino Real) followed with a walk to load the bases. Senior Kristina Kish (Tucson, Ariz. / Canyon Del Oro) ended the inning with a line-out to center field.
Centenary plated the first run of the game for either team in the bottom of the first. Despite giving up a run, senior pitcher Cat Patterson (West Columbia, Texas / Brazosport Christian School) was able to work out of the early jam and strand a runner.
In the top of the second, sophomore Marina Delaluna (Concord, Calif. / Concord) ripped a one-out double and advanced to third on a single from Saucedo. The Tigers then scored their first run of the game on a double steal with both runners being safe at second and home. Senior Sammie Whitman (Austin, Texas / Lake Travis) put the Tigers out in front with an RBI single up the middle to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the second.
The Ladies of Centenary scored another run to tie the game up at 2-2 in the bottom of the second. Miller led off the third inning with a single up the middle. Sophomore Diamond Elizondo (San Antonio, Texas / Stevens) later hit a double down left field line with one out. Saucedo then hit a two-out single to bring two runners in and take a 4-2 lead in the third.
Trinity jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the fourth inning after Whitman reached on an error and later scored on a double Williams double. Williams brought in Whitman again in the top of the sixth to put the Tigers out in front 6-2. The Ladies responded with three runs of their own to come within a run heading into the final inning of play.
First-year Lanie Smith (Foxfield, Colo. / Regis Jesuit) pinch hit in the seventh and reached base on a double to center. Smith later scored thanks to an RBI single from Delaluna. The one insurance run added in the top of the frame was enough for the Tigers. Patterson threw a complete game and earned her first win of the season.

"It was great to break through and start off strong in conference play," explained Head Coach Abby Martin. "We have more and more girls stepping up every day and it's exciting to see. The sky is the limit for this team when they play hard and play together. We made good adjustments offensively and Cat Pat looks strong in the circle. Looking forward to taking two more tomorrow"
