Box Score 2 SHREVEPORT, La. - The Trinity University softball team had another big day at the plate. The Tigers poured in 21 runs to knock off Centenary College 12-3 (6 innings) and 9-1 (6 innings). The Ladies knocked Trinity out of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference playoffs last year, so this sweep was huge for the Tigers.
Numerous Tigers had multi-hit games on the afternoon. First-year Abigail Miller (Winnetka, Calif. / El Camino Real) went 3-7 at the plate with one double, one homerun, and five RBI. TU also scored two or more runs in five of the innings played today.
Game One Rundown
Sophomore Jordyn Williams (Clayton, Calif. / Clayton Valley Charter) led off the second inning with a double in the right-center gap. The next at-bat, first-year Lanie Smith (Foxfield, Colo. / Regis Jesuit) single to put runners on the corner. Sophomore Diamond Elizondo (San Antonio, Texas / Stevens) reached first base on an error to load the bases with just one out. Sophomore Marina Delaluna (Concord, Calif. / Concord) then double to bring in the first to runs of the game. First-year Sydney Watson (San Antonio, Texas / San Antonio Christian) later brought in another run on an infield single. With the bases loaded, first-year Jessica Lloyd (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. / Trabuco Hills) roped a single up the middle to add two more runs and increase the Tiger's early lead to 5-0. After cycling through the lineup, Williams hit another double to plate two runs and give Trinity a 7-0 lead in the top of the second inning. The Ladies of Centenary added two runs in the bottom of the second inning to make the score 7-2 in favor of the Tigers.
Lloyd started off the fourth inning by getting hit by a pitch and later advanced on a single from Williams. Miller then singled down left field line to score a run and make the score 8-3.
Lloyd doubled to left center to lead off the top of the sixth inning. Smith then reached first on an error by the Ladies second baseman. Brianna Pena (La Porte, Texas / La Porte) and Addi Lusk (Austin, Texas / Bowie) pinch ran for both runners. Miller reached on a fielder's choice and brought in a run. Elizondo later singled to load the bases. Dawson Dabboussi (Dallas, Texas / Highland Park) then reached first on a pinch-hit single to bring another run. Watson also singled to bring in two more runs to extend the TU lead to 12-3. Centenary needed to score at least two runs in the bottom of the sixth to keep the game going but could not, so Trinity run-ruled the Ladies in six innings.
Emery Boettcher (Fredericksburg, Texas / Fredericksburg) threw six innings and gave up three runs en route to earning her first win of the season in the circle (1-6).
Game Two Rundown
Trinity put up a four-spot in the first inning. Senior Sammie Whitman (Austin, Texas / Lake Travis) recorded the first hit of game two with a single to left center. Lloyd then singled to right center and moved Whitman over to third base. Smith later singled to bring in a run. Miller then smoked a three-run blast over the left field fence for her first collegiate homerun to put Trinity up 4-0. Centenary scored a run in the bottom of the frame to cut into the deficit.
Lloyd led off the third with a single to right center and later came around to score after Miller reached first on an error by the shortstop to increase the Trinity lead to 5-1.
In the top of the fifth, Smith singled and was pinch-ran for. Pena, who came into pinch-run scored from first after Miller doubled to left field. Elizondo then moved Miller over to this on a sacrifice bunt. Delaluna later grounded out to the shortstop but brought Miller in to put the Tigers up 7-1.
Watson led off the top of the sixth with a single but was replaced at first by Whitman on a fielder's choice. Lloyd then singled up the middle to put runners on first and second. Williams grounded out to first but moved both runners over. Smith later singled to center to bring in two runs and extend the TU lead to 9-1.
Cat Patterson (West Columbia, Texas / Brazosport Christian School) earned her second win of the season after throwing six innings and only allowing one run on seven hits.

"We had a great weekend. Firing on all cylinders," stated Head Coach Abby Martin.
" When we were struggling early in the season we talked about needing to have all three things: pitching, defense, and offense. We had all three this weekend so I am not surprised at the results. Looking to build even more on this and continue playing well for the remainder of the season."
Up Next
The Tigers will be back at home on March 10th, hosting Howard Payne University in a doubleheader. Those two games first of a 13 game homestand. Trinity will play six games before returning to conference play again.
