COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – The 19th-ranked Trinity women's tennis team opened Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a 9-0 shutout victory at Colorado College on Sunday morning.
The Tigers fielded nine different players in the match, beginning with the three doubles teams earning three quick wins to stake Trinity to a 3-0 lead. Ruth Hill (Abilene, Texas / Abilene) and Olivia Kim (Phoenix, Ariz. / Desert Mountain) teamed up for their team-leading eighth doubles win this season. The top line team of Cate Cushing (Colleyville, Texas / Heritage) and Megan Flores (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake) are right on their heels with a 7-3 mark after Sunday's win. Ellie Hughes (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) and Sam Miller (Georgetown, Texas / Georgetown) completed the doubles sweep at line three.
Singles began with Hill and Kim going back-to-back at the top two lines to clinch the match. Hill improved to 6-4 overall in singles play, but she is now undefeated at 4-0 at the top two lines. Kim won the clincher at line two and evened her season record to 4-4.
Elodie Richard (Allen, Texas / Allen) made it a 6-0 Trinity lead with her win that kept her a perfect 3-0 at line four this season. Jenna Lee (San Clemente, Calif. / JSerra Catholic) also remained unbeaten at 3-0 in line three singles matches and followed up Richard to keep the sweep going.
Hughes then joined Hill and Kim as the only three Tigers to win both singles and doubles matches today, improving to 3-1 in singles action on the year. Trinity Hatchett (Pearland, Texas / Dawson) put the finishing touches on the sweep with her line six win, battling to an 8-7 (10-3) victory to improve to 2-0 this season.
