Softball Blanked by NAIA #25 Our Lady of the Lake in Home Finale

Box Score

SAN ANTONIO – The Trinity softball team finished off its regular season home schedule with a 6-0 loss to NAIA's 25th-ranked Our Lady of the Lake University on Wednesday night.

The Tigers managed just two hits against OLLU – both of which came from senior Sammie Whitman (Austin, Texas / Lake Travis), who reached base all three times she came up in the game. Cat Patterson (West Colombia, Texas / Brazosport Christian School) took the loss for the Tigers, falling to 14-9 this season.

The Rundown

Our Lady of the Lake got on the board in the top of the first to take the early lead, picking up a two-out single to score the game's opening run. The Saints snagged another two-out hit in the third to double the lead to 2-0.

Whitman started off the game for the Tigers by drawing a walk, but she was thrown out attempting to steal second to end the inning. That was the only baserunner for the Tigers over the first three innings.

Our Lady of the Lake took control of the game with a big fourth inning, scoring three runs on five hits in the frame. Whitman led off the bottom of the inning with Trinity's first hit of the game, but she was stranded on first and the score remained 5-0 after four.

In the fifth, the Saints took advantage of the first error of the game to score what turned out to be the game's final run. In the bottom of the inning, Jordyn Williams (Clayton, Calif. / Clayton Valley Charter) drew a one-out walk and moved into scoring position with two outs, but was stranded at second.

Whitman picked up her second hit of the game with one out in the sixth, but was stranded at first. In the seventh, Abigail Miller (Winnetka, Calif. / El Camino Real) drew a leadoff walk as the Tigers made one final bid to break up the shutout. After a pop-up, OLLU induced a game-ending double play to finish the game.

Numbers to Note

Trinity reached base just five times in the game, with Whitman accounting for three of those by going 2-for-2 with a walk.

Relief pitchers Kaylee Ortiz (Fullerton, Calif. / Fullerton Union) and Emery Boettcher (Fredericksburg, Texas / Fredericksburg) allowed just one unearned run on three hits over the final 3.1 innings of the game.

Up Next

Trinity will resume Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a three-game series at third-ranked Texas Lutheran University this weekend. The series opens with a Friday afternoon doubleheader that begins at 5:00 p.m. in Seguin, Texas.
