Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SEGUIN, Texas - The Trinity softball team dropped a heartbreaker in game two of the series to No. 3 ranked Texas Lutheran University. The Tigers bounced back with a 1-0 loss on a walk-off after losing game one 12-1. TU is now (18-21, 13-7 SCAC) on the season.

Senior pitcher Cat Patterson (West Columbia, Texas / Brazosport Christian) had a stellar night in the circle for Trinity despite being tabbed with the loss. The senior hurler tossed a complete-game three-hitter and surrender one unearned run.

Trinity outhit the number third-ranked Bulldogs 7-to-3 in game two of the evening. Sophomore Marina Delaluna (Concord, Calif. / Concord) and senior Brianna Pena (La Porte, Texas / La Porte) both collected two hits for the Tigers. Trinity left nine runners on base, which proved to be the difference in game two.

Game One Rundown

Trinity hitters went down in order to open up the top of the opening frame. TLU came out swinging with a two-run first inning. First-year Kaylee Ortiz (Fullerton, Calif. / Fullerton Union) started in the circle for the Tigers. The Texas Lutheran lead-off hitter reached on a double down left field line and later scored after stealing third and advancing to home on a throwing error. The other Bulldog run came on a double to left center.

TLU added seven runs in the home half of the second inning to take a commanding 9-0 lead. After a tough first inning in relief, junior Emery Boettcher (Fredericksburg, Texas / Fredericksburg) settled in to retire the Bulldogs in order and keep them off the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, TLU scored three more runs to take a 12-0 lead. After loading the bases, a Bulldog scored on a sacrifice fly to left field. The other two players later scored on a two-run double.

With the run rule in effect and a perfect game intact, Trinity had three outs to put a runner on base in hopes of extending the game. After the first two batters were retired, sophomore Jordyn Williams (Clayton, Calif. / Clayton Valley) worked a full count and roped a double to right center to break up the perfect game. Williams later scored on a throwing error by the shortstop which also broke up the TLU shutout. Sophomore Dawson Dabboussi (Dallas, Texas / Highland Park) followed that up with a pinch-hit double to put runners on second and third. Unfortunately, the Tigers fell 12-1 in the opening game of the series.

Game Two Rundown

Delaluna collected the first hit of the game on a single. Dabboussi followed that up with a single of her own. First-year Abigail Miller (Winnetka, Calif. / El Camino Real) loaded the bases after getting hit by a pitch. Unfortunately, the Tigers were unable to plate any runners to grab the early lead. Patterson sat down the first three hitters in the opening frame to keep the Bulldogs off the board.

First-year Sydney Watson (San Antonio, Texas / San Antonio Christian) led off the second with a triple to right field but was thrown out at home trying to score the first run of the game. Patterson gave up one hit in the second inning but stranded the runner at first base.

Pena singled in the fourth and later advanced to third after Watson reached first on a throwing error. Despite having runners on the corners, Trinity was unable to plate a run.

Neither side managed to get much going in the later innings of the game until the bottom of the seventh. A Bulldog led off with a single and later advanced on a throwing error. Back-to-back walks loaded the bases and brought in the eventual winning run. Trinity dropped game two by a score of 1-0 on a walk-off walk.
