Box Score SEGUIN, Texas - The softball team falls to (18-22, 13-8 SCAC) after dropping the final game of the series to No. 3 Texas Lutheran University.
The Bulldogs took an early 4-0 lead heading into the third inning and ultimately ended up shutting out Trinity by a socre of 8-0. Sophomore Marina Delaluna (Concord, Calif. / Concord) and senior Brianna Pena (La Porte, Texas / La Porte) picked up the Tiger's two hits on the afternoon.
The Rundown
The Trinity hitters were retired in order to open up the game. TLU managed to push a run across after their leadoff hitter singled and stole second, third, and home.
The Bulldogs added three more runs in the bottom of the second in large part to two RBI triples to extend their lead to 4-0.
Junior Emery Boettcher (Fredericksburg, Texas / Fredericksburg) held the Bulldogs to a scoreless third inning by retiring all three batters she faced. Deluna broke up the perfect game in the top of the fourth with a single to left field but was left stranded. Boettcher then tossed her second consecutive scoreless inning. In the top of the fourth, Pena reached first on an infield single. With two outs, first-year Maliena Carelli (Kirkland, Wash. / Lake Washington) was called to pinch-hit and was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. Unfortunately, the Tigers were unable to score and cut into the deficit.
TLU added four runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead to 8-0 and induce the run-rule.

Trinity will begin preparing for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships which will take place in Irving, Texas from April 29th through May 1st.
