KERRVILLE, Texas - No. 13 Trinity University Women's Tennis collected a quick-work victory over University of St. Thomas as the top seed in the 2022 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship semifinal on the campus of Schreiner University Saturday.
The line three sophomore duo of Ellie Hughes (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) and Elodie Richard (Allen, Texas / Allen) and got things rolling for the Tigers (13-8) with a shutout win, followed closely by the 8-1 mark in line two from Trinity newcomers Olivia Kim (Phoenix, Ariz. / Desert Mountain) and Ruth Hill (Abilene, Texas / Abilene)
The doubles sweep required a little extra from senior Megan Flores (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake) and sophomore Cate Cushing (Colleyville, Texas / Colleyville Heritage) as they battled to victory on a 7-4 tiebreaker.
Singles play moved quickly Saturday as a 6-1, 6-1 mark in line three from Hill won the race back to the book. Through Hill's pace, Flores checked in soon-after which led to the senior clinching the match in line four in a straight-sets shutout.
All of the remaining four singles matches featured a first-set victory for the Tigers when the rackets dropped. Kim, Cushing and Hughes all had leads late in their second sets as well while Richard's second set was about to begin.
No. 13 Trinity Women's Tennis will battle No. 16 Southwestern University for the 2022 SCAC Championship Sunday. First serve slated for 9 a.m. at the George & Francis Cree Tennis Center in Kerrville.
