No. 2/3 Tiger Women Back on the Road for SCAC Weekend Action

SAN ANTONIO – The Tiger women's basketball team continues its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference road trip with a pair of games this weekend at Texas Lutheran University and Southwestern University.

Trinity improved its record to 15-0 with a pair of road wins last weekend against the University of Dallas and Austin College. The Tigers are alone atop the SCAC standings with a 6-0 record, followed closely by Colorado College (5-1) in second place, then a three-way tie for third place that includes both of this weekend's opponents. Among Trinity's 15 wins are four wins over teams that were nationally-ranked at the time: Hardin-Simmons University (twice), the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, and the University of Puget Sound.

NCAA III Polls: D3hoops.com and WBCA
Trinity remains second in this week's D3hoops.com national poll, as well as holding in third place in the latest Women's Basketball Coaches Association poll in NCAA III. The Tigers trail New York University in the D3hoops.com poll, while both NYU and Christopher Newport are ahead of Trinity in the WBCA rankings.

NCAA III Rankings
Trinity continues to be highly-ranked in the NCAA III statistical rankings as well, coming into the weekend in the top 10 in eight different categories. The Tigers are the fourth-best scoring offense in the country this year at 84.8 points per game. Trinity is also the top team in the nation with 20.4 assists per game and fourth with 18.3 steals per game.

Junior point guard Maggie Robbins (Plano, Texas / Plano) is second individually in steals and fifth in steals per game this season, while also heading into the weekend with the ninth-most assists in NCAA III.

Senior Ashlyn Milton (Amarillo, Texas / Amarillo) is also ranked in the top 50 nationally in steals this season, but one of her biggest contributions so far has been from beyond the arc. Milton is sixth in NCAA III in three-point field goal percentage this season and is 10th in the nation in total three-pointers made.

Tiger Milestones
Trinity's current 15-game winning streak is the third-longest in school history. The Tigers set the school record with 27 consecutive wins last season, while the 2012-13 team won 17 straight games. No other streak is longer in Trinity women's basketball history.

The Tigers are one of just eight undefeated teams remaining in NCAA III, though Trinity has the most victories among those schools. Christopher Newport and Transylvania University both have 14-0 records, while three other teams are 13-0. Trinity has won 32 consecutive games against SCAC opponents, which is the third-longest current streak in NCAA III this season.

Milton just broke Trinity's career record for three-point field goals made in the latest game at Austin College, passing Hannah Coley for the all-time record. Milton needs just five more three-pointers to reach 200 in her career and she is approaching the top 10 in SCAC history. Coming into the season, the 10th-most threes in league history were 206. Already a 1,000-point scorer, Milton needs just 33 more points to become the 13th player in Trinity history to reach 1,100 in a career.

Robbins enters this weekend needing eight more assists to become the 18th Tiger women's basketball player to record 200 or more in a career. She is also ranked in the top 20 all-time in steals, though she needs 40 more to reach 200 in that category. That exclusive list includes just seven players – four of which have also recorded 200 or more assists.

Preview: Texas Lutheran (1/13) and Southwestern (1/14)
Trinity will open up the road weekend in Seguin, Texas, against Texas Lutheran on Friday night. The Tigers are 25-8 overall against the Bulldogs (since 1991-92), but just 9-6 in the series in road games. Trinity has won four straight meetings with Texas Lutheran, following Texas Lutheran's win in the 2019 SCAC Championship game.

The Tigers then meet up with Southwestern in Georgetown, Texas, on Saturday afternoon. It will be the 65th meeting (since 1991-92) between the two programs and Trinity comes into the weekend with a 46-18 record in the series. Trinity has won 13 consecutive games against Southwestern, which came after dropping all three meetings between the two schools during the 2014-15 season. The Tigers are 19-11 on the road against the Pirates, including a current six-game winning streak.

The weekend could be a good test for Trinity's offense as the two opponents are the top two teams in the league in scoring defense: Texas Lutheran leads the way in allowing just 54.9 points/game, while Southwestern is giving up 59.3 points/game this season.

Looking Ahead: Centenary (1/20) and St. Thomas (1/21)
Trinity will make its return home for the first time in nearly three weeks on January 20 and 21, hosting Centenary College and the University of St. Thomas. That will kick off a stretch that includes six home games among the final eight games of the regular season. The Tigers will put their 24-game home winning streak on the line.
