SAN ANTONIO – No. 17 Trinity University Women's Swimming & Diving won 14 of 16 events in its final home dual meet of the 2022-23 campaign for a 174-79 victory over Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Southwestern University.
First-year
Neely Burns (Phoenix, Ariz. / Thunderbird) made her first appearance in the 1,000 free and immediately put herself third on the program's all-time top-ten list, winning the event in 10:34.09 ahead of a pair of Pirate entries. Burns went on to claim victory in both the 200 breaststroke (2:24.83) and 200 individual medley (2:08.21).
Junior
Emma Hagan (Overland Park, Kan. / Olathe East) joined the Tiger rookie as a multi-event winner as the only entry in the 200 freestyle to break two minutes (1:57.67) then topped the podium again later in the afternoon with a 58.52-second 100 butterfly performance.
Sophomore
Josie Gillentine (Heath, Texas / Rockwall Heath) earned the 100 breaststroke title in 1:08.67 as one of seven different Tigers with one individual gold on the afternoon. Gillentine, however, joined Hagan on both the victorious 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay squads on top of their individual success.
A third member from each of the relay teams scored a victory along the way and did so in back-to-back events. Junior
Caroline Myers (Austin, Texas / Bowie) took home the 200 butterfly title in 2:14.66 soon after anchoring the top medley relay quartet to start the day. Immediately after, first-year
Juliana Wiehrdt (Waco, Texas / Midway) paced the 50 freestyle in 25.03 seconds.
On the boards, senior
Gabi Fulk (Scottsdale, Ariz. / Horizon) and sophomore
Alexis Radhakrishnan (Lexington, Ky. / Paul Laurence Dunbar) went to the wire in both events as Fulk opened the day with a 14-point victory in the three-meter (264.80) followed by Radhakrishnan's narrow four-point victory in the one-meter (285.35).
A pair of Tiger rookies in
Julie Schwam (Portland, Ore. / David Douglas) and
Audrey Jacobson (Dallas, Texas / School for the Talented and Gifted) round out the individual victories for Trinity on Saturday. Schwan claimed the 100 backstroke in 1:00.43 while Jacobson paced the 200 backstroke field by nearly 10 seconds at 2:10.53.
Another first-year duo rounded out the victorious relay squads for Trinity.
Bethany Mueller (Buda, Texas / Hays) was the first leg of the opening 200 medley relay while
Kylee Hutchinson (Corpus Christi, Texas / Flour Bluff) was the third into the pool for the 200 freestyle relay. Both newcomers collected a pair of top-four finishes in other events Saturday afternoon.
No. 17 Trinity Women's Swimming & diving will take the long journey to visit NCAA I University of the Incarnate Word next Saturday for the final dual meet of the season. The 2023 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships begin February 8 in Garland, Texas.
